The Celestial Guard are the units which guard the celestial emperor’s capital, especially the Forbidden City, the great palace compound, which includes the Imperial Palace (the size of a small city), recreational pavilions, big gardens and the mansions of other members of the imperial family, noblemen and civil servants from the Yu Jing Ministry of Justice.
The Zhanshi (Zhan Shi - chin. warrior) are the pillars of the army, the main general purpose troops. They participate in joint actions and in offensive operations like regular troops. They also make up the defensive garrisons of the cities and frontier posts. One of the Zhanshi characteristics is the importance that they give to hand to hand combat, much more so than any other regular army.
